Carpenter

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This role provides skilled carpentry support across the entire MBC property, contributing to repairs, upgrades, capital building projects and renovations as needed. As part of the broader maintenance team, they also support general property upkeep, including plumbing, electrical, grounds work and other operational tasks, helping ensure excellence and reliability across MBC.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
CARPENTRY
Complete carpentry projects and general repairs across all MBC properties to specifications - on time and on budget.
  • Work with Facilities Manager to purchase materials and track to project budget
  • Prepare construction sites, materials, and tools.
  • Remove debris, garbage, and materials from sites
  • Work with drawings or instructions from supervisors
  • Compliance with building codes, and health and safety regulations
 
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
As required, support general maintenance tasks under the direction of the Facilities Manager and Maintenance Leads. Help to ensure all infrastructure is operating to safety and to standard: roads, grounds, electrical, plumbing, water, sewer, HVAC, etc.
  • Complete general repairs across all MBC facilities
  • Equipment operation – power tools, riding lawn mowers, excavator, tractors, dump trucks etc.
  • Carry a two-way radio and cell phone for communication, respond to work order requests as required
  • Assist with ground maintenance duties as required (grass cutting, tree removal, wood splitting, etc)
  • Assist with snow removal in the winter months as required
 
WATER & SEWER SYSTEMS
As required, assist the Lead Water & Sewer Operator with the operation and maintenance of our water & sewer systems.
  • Maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, and pump stations
  • Install sewer service connections and repair water leaks
  • Operate and maintain sewer pump stations
  • Take samples and record data
  • Perform general maintenance on sewer system
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend safety training and comply with all safety policies and regulations.
  • Share on call time with other maintenance team members as needed
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and clean workspace.
  • Keep shop equipment functional and in good condition.
  • Mentoring students in their Christian faith, possibly lead department Bible studies.
  • Additional duties as required
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in carpentry, construction and or building maintenance.
  • Trade certification or apprenticeship experience in carpentry or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and building materials.
  • Ability to complete projects independently and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience operating equipment such as power tools, lawn equipment, tractors, skid steers, excavators, or dump trucks is considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, water, or sewer systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code requirements and workplace health & safety standards.
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and performing outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Experience in campground, resort, institutional, or multi-building property maintenance is considered an asset.

Compensation

$60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
