Description:
Serving with the Immerse team, our Dorm Family commits about 3 months of their summer to providing safe, supportive care for about 120 Immerse students over the spring and summer. Housing and meals are provided for the family as a part of this seasonal contract, with opportunities to practically serve the summer team at MBC through discipleship, emotional and physically support and planning activities. Dorm Coordinators live in residence with our staff, and report to the Student Discipleship Coordinators as a part of the Immerse Discipleship team.
Responsibilities
Spiritual Care:
- Create and be prepared for conversations and teaching times that foster spiritual growth in the life of the Immerse students (Bible students, devotionals)
- Provide an informal mentorship experience for student staff
- Support Room Leaders, Section Heads and Student Discipleship staff in matters of curfew management, discipline, conflict resolution and pastoral care, within defined hours and parameters that promote the family’s own health.
Hospitality:
- Assist the Section Heads and Room Leaders in creating a welcoming environment for students
- Organize small weekly activities such as movie nights, as well as supporting more significant one-time events run by the Student Discipleship team.
- Maintain and implement the rules of the Immerse program in a generous and loving way
- Help coordinate and run staff events, staff chapel, team building events etc.
Health:
- Track the distribution of medication to staff in a safe, secure manner.
- Assist with supporting staff who need medical care (clinic visits, etc.).
- Support the mental health of staff by connecting them with MBC-provided resources.
- Manage room checks (for sanitary reasons) and curfew (for physical rest) per MBC Immerse Handbook guidelines
Administration:
- Participate in Team Development Week at the start of the summer.
- Ensure a strong finish to the student season with a clear plan for checking out students at the end of season (clean rooms, farewell/briefing parents, etc.)
- Maintain compliance with all relevant government regulations, the MBC Child and Youth Protection Policy and Staff Handbook policies and procedures, especially as it relates to the student staff community in our care.
- Ensure safety of staff and guests at all times – including managing risks associated with social media, cell phones, etc.
Hours of Work:
- This position is a seasonal full time role. The dorm coordinators are required to stay on site for the duration of employment, with housing and meals provided.
- Weekend and holiday work will be required
Qualifications:
- Educational experience working with youth / young adults considered an asset.
- Work or volunteer experience with youth / young adults is considered an asset.
- Professional in communication, conduct and appearance, a strong ability to problem-solve.
- Quick on feet, quick responding and can handle crises.
- A heart for influencing youth to be passionate followers of Jesus Christ.
- It is an asset to have a personal mentor or coach that you can talk to and be encouraged by throughout this working season as it is high-demanding of your time and energy. (Making sure you are connected well and being “fed in to” is essential as you are pouring out in this job.)
